Chapter 13 · RANK REFERENCE

Ranks and Insignia

The Typhon has several rank tracks. Your track reflects your membership and officer training status.

Choosing your track

Not every crewmember wants the same kind of role. Some join STARFLEET International and take officer training. Others prefer to take part as Typhon-only members. Speak with your Department Chief about the track that fits you.

Commissioned

Generally for crewmembers whose STARFLEET International membership is paid up and who have completed Officer Training School (OTS) through the STARFLEET Academy. If their membership expires, they will usually move to Provisional status until they renew.

Provisional

For a crewmember whose STARFLEET International membership has expired, or a Typhon-only member who has passed a Typhon officer exam. The Typhon exam has not been created yet, so that pathway is not currently available.

NCO

Mainly for Typhon-only crewmembers who have not completed officer training through either STARFLEET's OTS or a Typhon officer exam. NCO stands for non-commissioned officer.

Civilian

For crewmembers who have not chosen a rank track, or who simply want to enjoy being part of the crew. It can also suit accompanying family members, partners and children.

Provisional insignia

Typhon's Provisional track uses the style of rank insignia seen on Star Trek: Voyager. People sometimes call these “Maquis ranks” because former Maquis crewmembers wore them aboard Voyager. They represent provisional Starfleet appointments rather than a separate Maquis rank system. Typhon uses that visual style for its own Provisional track.

Keeping rank records current

If your rank or track needs updating, start with your Department Chief so the details can be checked in the ship's roster. Points and promotion requirements are covered separately. A value displayed in the database does not, by itself, grant a promotion.
